About
What is the FX & Commodity Almanac?
FX & Commodity Almanac is an independent reference that records official ECB euro reference exchange rates and World Bank monthly commodity prices, with history, ranges and volatility computed from the published figures.
Why it exists
Exchange-rate and commodity sites tend to fall into two camps: trading terminals that update every second and push signals, and news pages that report a single day’s move. Neither is much help if you need to know what the euro was worth in yen on a date in 2019, how unusual this year’s swings in a currency are, or what the World Bank’s monthly gold price actually measures. The almanac is a reference for those questions: the official record, laid out so it can be read, compared and cited.
What it covers
- 20 currency pairs built from the European Central Bank’s euro foreign exchange reference rates, daily since 4 Jan 2016 (currency board).
- 22 commodity price series from the World Bank Commodity Price Data (the “Pink Sheet”), monthly since January 2000 (commodity board).
- Two calculators and a set of almanac guides on how to read the data.
Editorial standards
- Official sources only. Every figure comes from the ECB or the World Bank and carries its date. We do not estimate, interpolate or fill gaps; missing observations stay missing.
- Computed, not invented. Changes, ranges, percentiles and volatility are computed from the published figures with the formulas on the methodology page. The automated notes on each page describe the record; they do not forecast.
- No signals, no advice. Nothing here recommends buying or selling anything. See the disclaimer.
- Dated and correctable. Guides show when they were updated and which data they were checked against. Errors can be reported to contact@forexcommoditynews.online and are corrected with a new update date.
- No fabricated experience. We do not publish testimonials, fake reviews or invented trading results.
How it is funded
The site is free and carries advertising served by Google AdSense. Advertisers have no say over content. There are no affiliate or sponsored links; if that ever changes, such links will be labelled where they appear and in the footer.
Data freshness
The data snapshot is refreshed and the site rebuilt on a schedule. The current snapshot holds ECB fixings to 16 Oct 2026 (retrieved 16 Oct 2026) and World Bank monthly prices to 2026-09 (retrieved 16 Oct 2026). If a source cannot be reached, the last good snapshot stays in place with its real date.
