On-Device AI Broadens the DRAM Supercycle Beyond HBM Demand
Published: · Source: hankyung.com

Hankyung reported that expectations for a DRAM-led semiconductor supercycle are growing as artificial intelligence investment expands beyond servers into on-device AI for smartphones, PCs and autonomous vehicles. Demand for HBM used in AI servers first drove the upturn, while demand for general DRAM such as GDDR7 and LPDDR5, as well as SSDs, is also rising. Morgan Stanley said the memory cycle could continue through 2027, and the global HBM market was forecast to grow from $3 billion in 2023 to $53 billion in 2027. TechInsights projected the DRAM market could expand from $98 billion in 2024 to $220 billion in 2030. Variables include CXMT’s entry into advanced DRAM, possible HBM oversupply and U.S. semiconductor tariffs. Source: hankyung.com
