Published: · Source: mk.co.kr

The combined market capitalization of South Korea’s 50 largest business groups has overtaken their fair asset value for the first time after a sharp rise over the past five years. According to mk.co.kr, their market value increased 187% to around 5,400 trillion won, while assets grew 51% over the same period. As a result, the market-cap-to-asset ratio rose from 0.87 times to 1.66 times. By group, Doosan recorded the highest ratio at 4.39 times, followed by SK and Samsung. Strong share prices at major groups including Samsung, SK and Doosan drove the overall expansion, showing that market valuations have risen faster than asset growth. Source: mk.co.kr
